Emerald
Deep bright green gemstone variety from the Beryl mineral family are usually known as Emerald, the most popular variety from this mineral family. The coloring agent is chrome, but commonly they are colored by vanadium. Emerald is usually a cloudy gemstone, and often may present many visible inclusions, so it must be handled with care, because it can break easily especially when mounting or worn on a ring.
The common and most applied treatment for this kind of stones is oiling, a treatment to improve and enhance the color and especially the clarity of the gemstone, filling the internal cavities and fissures. The finest stones are mined in Colombia, but also good quality specimens are coming from Zambia, Afghanistan and Brazil. Difficult and expensive to find in large size, emerald can be very expensive for the finest quality with strong saturation and nice transparent clarity. Read more.
